Building Foundations for the Future: Elementary at AISY

At AISY’s Elementary School (Grades K-6), we provide a dynamic and challenging learning environment where students develop the academic foundations and critical thinking skills necessary for future success. Our curriculum is rigorous and research-based, and we design experiences that foster intellectual curiosity, engagement, and a lifelong passion for learning.

Academic Standards

Our Elementary program is aligned with internationally recognized American standards to assure a high-quality, comprehensive education. Key frameworks include:

AERO Standards

U.S. Common Core / AERO Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics

NGSS

Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for Science

SHAPE

SHAPE America Standards for Physical Education

This alignment ensures that our students are building towards world-class expectations while developing strong foundational skills in a structured yet supportive context.

Our Core Curriculum

English Language Arts

Foundational Skills (Grades K-2): We deploy “Magnetic Reading Foundations” to establish phonics, decoding, and early literacy skills. Reading Comprehension (Grades K-5): Students engage with increasingly complex texts and build critical thinking skills via the “Ready Reading” and “Magnetic Reading” programs. Writing (Grades K-5): Through the “Ready Writing” program, students learn to craft clear, effective, purposeful writing, progressively building sophistication.

Grades K-5: We use the highly-regarded “EngageNY / Eureka Math” curriculum, which emphasizes conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving. Grade 6: Students transition to “Illustrative Mathematics,” which connects mathematical concepts to real-world applications and helps ease the shift to more advanced math in middle school.

These subjects are delivered through in-house, transdisciplinary units of inquiry that allow students to make meaningful connections between disciplines and the world around them. The inquiry-based approach encourages curiosity, investigation, and reflection.

We offer a robust program for both native Arabic speakers and non-native learners. This program is aligned with ISS and ACTFL standards, ensuring students develop language proficiency, cultural understanding and, where applicable, Islamic knowledge in an international school context.
